What is the The Society for Creative Anachronism?
The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an
organization dedicated to recreating aspects of life from pre-Seventeenth Century Europe.
The SCA was founded in 1966 in Berkeley, California, and since then has grown to an
international organization, with members and local groups located around the world.
What is the East Kingdom?
Within the context of the SCA, the world is divided up into 16 Kingdoms. The Kingdom of the East encompasses Delaware, New
Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, Eastern New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts,
Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine in the United States; and Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova
Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland in Canada.
What is a Chatelaine?
A Chatelaine (also known as Chatelain or Castellan) is the officer in charge of
newcomers. The Chatelaine helps newcomers to find activities that interest them, attend
their first event, acquire information and equipment, and generally helps in any way
needed.
How do I get started in the SCA?
A good way to get started is to get in touch with your local Chatelaine.
To determine your local group, visit the branch
locator page of the East Kingdom website. Let your local Chatelaine
know what it is about the SCA that interests you, and they will be
able to help you find activities that reflect those interests. If
you have any difficulty identifying or contacting your local Chatelaine,
please contact the East
Kingdom Chatelaine directly, and they will assist you.
